The novel coronavirus is spreading around the world, and cases of COVID-19 are increasing daily. Mapping those cases over time provides an interesting and informative perspective on where and when the increases have happened. Each of the following slides uses data from the state of Connecticut’s Department of Health & Human Services to show the total number of confirmed cases for each town in Connecticut over a span of 38 days, from March 24, 2020 to April 30, 2020. The highest number of cases seem to be in towns that lie along major transportation corridors through the state, with the earliest afflicted towns being in the southwestern part of Connecticut, closest to New York City. A useful extension of this project might be to display the confirmed cases of COVID-19 as a percentage of each town’s population, thereby allowing comparison of severity across the entire state of Connecticut.

Click either of the maps below to see an animated map of the spread of COVID-19 cases through Connecticut from March 24, 2020 through April 30, 2020. The information is the same in each map, only the way it is displayed differs.
For reference, a static map with Connecticut town names is included with each animated map.
